Note I didn't say, the top 5 things for Norristown to survive, because surviving is just making it...I'm talking about EXCELLING INTO THE 21st CENTURY. This is important because as we see new leadership coming into position in Norristown there needs to be some reference of what committed people like you see as the basic needs in Norristown to Excel.

Firearms Buy-back and FamilyStrengthening initiative to kick off
on April 21st.
Norristown Weed and Seed, along with many collaborating organizations, will announce a new initiative at a press conference on Thursday, April 21st at 3:30 PM. The event will be held at the Norristown PAL Center, 1101 Harding Blvd., Norristown.
·Norristown, PA: The Police Athletic League of Norristown was recently awarded a grant in the amount of $65,000 from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, under the PA Weed and Seed Program. Initiated by Aretha Swift, Montgomery County Revitalization Coordinator, PAL was asked to coordinate this effort with several other agencies.
Titled “Surrender Your Weapons and Live”, the program involves the efforts of many groups:
Beginning May 1st, area residents will be able to turn in unwanted firearms, in any condition, to
the Norristown Police Department. A voucher for $50 will be issued to the individual turning in
the weapon. Vouchers may be redeemed at the PAL Center for a $50 check. Norristown Police Chief Russell Bono endorses the concept, saying: “Every gun we take off the street, we eliminate the opportunity for that gun to be used in a crime.” Lt. Kevin McKeon, who will oversee the weapons turn in adds, “Every gun we take off the street eliminates the possibility for that gun to harm anyone. The buy-back program will help us to destroy every gun we recover so they never hurt anyone again.” Firearms will be processed, to determine if they were ever used in a crime, before being destroyed.
While at the Center, participants will be made aware of the many offerings by the various
participating non-profit agencies. These include The Police Athletic League of Norristown, Big
Brothers/Big Sisters of Montgomery County, Greater Norristown Communities That Care Program, and Family Services of Montgomery County.
“This is a great opportunity for so many like-minded organizations to work towards a common
goal; safer streets and more programming for children and families. We invite the residents of Norristown to be at the Norristown PAL Center on Thursday, April 21st at 3:30 pm to help kick-off this great event” says PAL Operations Director, Brett Wells.
The effort will “wrap up” with a Youth Day Rally on June 18th.
The participating agencies as well as the Montgomery County Commissioners Office, Norristown Police Department and the Sheriff’s Department endorse the program.
